She Already Knowsবুঝছি

The stimulus is announced and the daydreams start: a new phone, a beach, a plane at sunset. One word from the doorway settles the entire budget.

Six panels in a living room. A man sits on the couch with a bowl of popcorn watching a breaking news broadcast: the US government will give five thousand dollars to each American adult, a stimulus plan announced. He throws both fists up and says in Bangla that this is great news. A framed print on the wall reads good people, brighter days. The next panels are his daydreams, one after another: a brand new phone floating in a thought bubble with sparkles, then himself on a beach holding it and at a desk holding it beside a mug that reads good ideas later, then lounging back on the couch imagining himself at a sunset shoreline with a plane overhead and the phone in both hands. A sign on the wall behind him reads small plans, big escapes. In the last panel a woman in a hijab and a pink top appears in the doorway holding a mug, looking at him with a small knowing smile, and says one word in Bangla: understood.
